Revenge a motive in Monday's killing?

Winnipeg police are investigating their second murder in two days, with the latest casting a strong scent of retribution.

Winnipeg police are investigating their second murder in two days, with the latest casting a strong scent of retribution.

On Monday night at a home in the Fort Rouge neighbourhood, 24-year-old Kevin Tokarchuk was killed by a gunshot to the head.

Tokarchuk is not a gang member, nor does he have a criminal record. Police say, however, his killing may have something to do with the murder of gang member Trevor Savoie, who was killed on May 12, 2002 one year ago to the day of Tokarchuk's death.

Kevin's brother, Daniel, is charged with Savoie's murder.

Patrol Sergeant Devon Clunis wouldn't say whether that is an angle Winnipeg Police are pursuing. "The investigation is very early so as the police, we don't want to focus on our direction in one particular way," says Clunis. "We have to be very open to all the possibilies."

When paramedics arrived on the scene Monday, they found Kevin Tokarchuk underneath a vehicle. They didn't discover the bullet hole in his head until they removed him from underneath the car.

On Tuesday, police scoured Tokarchuk's home on Churchill Drive, trying to piece together what happened.
