Man arrested in armed robberies of banks and businesses in Winnipeg

A 39-year-old man has been charged in connection with a series of armed robberies at banks and businesses in Winnipeg.

String of 7 heists took place in 2016 and 2017

Two businesses and five financial institutions were held up by a man who threatened staff with either a gun or knife, police say. (CBC)

A 39-year-old man has been charged in connection with a series of armed robberies at banks and businesses in Winnipeg.

Two businesses and five financial institutions were held up by a man who threatened staff with either a gun or knife and tried to conceal his face with a scarf or pulled-down hat, police said.

The robberies happened between Feb.15, 2016,and June 26, 2017, at the following locations:

  • Business in the 2200 block of McPhillips Streeton Feb.15, 2016.
  • Business in the 1000 block of McPhillips Streeton Feb.19, 2016.
  • Financial institution in the 1800 block of Main Streeton March 4, 2016.
  • Financial institution in the 1300 block of Ellice Avenueon May 11, 2016.
  • Financial institution in the 1500 block of St. Mary's Roadon March 9, 2017.
  • Financial institution in the 600 block of St. James Streeton March 27, 2017.
  • Financial institution in the 1500 block of Regent Avenueon June 26, 2017.

Using security video, police were able to link all of the crimes and identify a suspect, who was arrested Monday.

There were no injuries in any of the robberies.
