Person dead after rooming house fire in Winnipeg

Firefighters found a body in a North End Winnipeg residence while putting out flames inside the structure on Thursday.

Woman also treated at scene for non-life-threatening injuries

A fire in a North End Winnipeg residence has left one person dead.

Fire crews were called around 12:30 a.m. to the two-storey building onFlora Avenuenear McGregorStreet, which police said is a rooming house.

While extinguishing the flames, firefighters located a body and calledpolice. A woman was also treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

No information about thesex or ageof the person found dead, nor the suspected cause of death, has been released by police.

The police service's major crimes unit isinvestigating and anyone with information is asked to call204-986-6219 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

  • We initially reported that two people were sent to hospital, one of them in critical condition, based in information from police. In fact, one person was found dead and the other was treated at the scene, police said later. No one was sent to hospital.
