Man, 56, found dead in northwest Winnipeg

Death being treated as homicide, but there is no threat to public: police

Yellow tape is strung across the front yard of a bungalow in Winnipeg'sShaughnessy Park neighbourhood, where police say a man was found dead on Monday afternoon.

Officers were called around 4:40 p.m. to the house on Selkirk Avenue near McNicholStreet. Neighbours told CBC News there was a heavy police presence well into the evening.

The man, whose death is considered a homicide, has been identified by police as Edgar Allan Bear, 56. He was a member of the Peguis First Nation but living in the city, according to a news release from police on Tuesday.

No other information about the death or any arrestshas been provided by police.

Two police cruisers remained at the house onTuesday,holding the scene for investigators,a police spokesperson said, who noted there is no threat to the public.
