Settlement reached in disabilities complaint

The Manitoba government has agreed to move dozens of people out of a home for the intellectually disabled.

The move follows a human rights complaint filed by Community Living Manitoba, a group that has fought to close down the Manitoba Development Centre.

The group's executive director, Rose Flaig, says people with intellectual disabilities deserve to live in the community with proper support.

But the governmentcountered thatsome people prefer to live in the centre.

Under a mediated settlement, 49 of the centre's 250 residents will be moved out over the next three years.

Family Services Minister Gord Mackintosh said the agreement supports the rights of residents to choose where to live.
