Family and friends of a slainWinnipeg teen gathered Thursday in Winnipeg to mark what would have been her 20thbirthday.

The body of Hillary Angel Wilson was found Aug. 20 on a dirt path in a sparsely populated area in East St. Paul. The RCMP, which confirmed her identity following an autopsy, are treating her death as a homicide but her killer has not yet been found.

Wilson'smother, Gwen, is still trying to make sense of her daughter's death.

"Why would anyone want to hurt her?" she said Thursday as the group gathered at the corner of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street one of the last placesWilson was last seen alive by friends.

"She was always loving and caring towards people. She wasn't a hateful person."

Family and friends are pleading with the public to come forward with information that might help bring some closure to the case.

"I don't think anybody in their right mind shouldhold any information back. That's just evil and demented and deranged," Gwen said.

A feast is being held Thursday night at Thunderbird House on Main Street in Wilson's honour and in support of the numerous families of missing or murdered women.

It's free and open to the public.
