St. Andrews Community Club treasurer charged with theft and fraud
53-year-old woman from RM of St. Andrews will appear in court in May
A 53-year-old woman has beencharged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollarsand fraud for allegedly making afalse entry on a ledger during her decade-long tenure as treasurer of theSt. Andrews Community Club.
"Any money that goes missing affects the club, that's for sure," saidKurt Procter, president of the club.
Selkirk RCMP startedinvestigatingin May 2015 after suspicions were raised at the club about mismanagement of its money.
"At our last couple of AGMs,the current board found large, irregular payments on credit cards, and cheques that had no support and couldn't be accounted for," saidProcter.
The boardcompiled their information and gave itto theRCMPlast year. TheRCMPlaunched an investigation, whichled totwo searches this past weekend.
The woman, a resident of the rural municipality of St. Andrews, was released on arecognizance and promisesto appear in provincial court in Selkirk in May.
Procter said the club now makes sure every penny is accounted for and proofs of purchasesare required before people are reimbursed.
