Lockdown at St. John's High School ends after 4 sent to hospital

Four people were sent to hospital during an incident near a Winnipeg high school Thursday afternoon that drew a police presence and led administration to briefly issue a lockdown.

Four people were sent to hospital during an incident near aWinnipeg high school Thursday afternoon that drew a police presence and led administration to briefly issue a lockdown.

Police were called to St. John's High School on Church Avenue at 12:45 p.m. CT after reports of an assault in the area.

A spokesperson with the Winnipeg School Division confirmed a man, whoisn't a student or staff, was injured nearthe North End school. Staff at the school helped the man, who was suffering from upper body injuries,before he was sent to hospital, police said.

Three youth were also involved in the altercation. Pepper spray was used and all three were sent to hospital.

After 20 minutes under lockdown,the school shiftedto a hold-and-secure situation, meaning students wereallowed to move within the building but no one was allowed to leave.

The hold and secure has since been lifted.
