Manitoba Hydro introduces new CEO

Scott Thomson is the newpresident and CEO of Manitoba Hydro.

Thomson most recently served as the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Fortis BC, the largest distributor of natural gas in British Columbia.

He was unanimously recommended for theManitobajob by hydro's board of directors.

"Scott brings a wealth of industry experience to the table, from electricity to natural gas," Premier Greg Selinger stated in a news release.

"I know hell build on Manitoba Hydros successes and ensure First Nations and aboriginal communities and all Manitobans benefit as the corporation keeps moving forward."

Thomson, who will begin his new role in mid-February,said his priorityis toget thenew transmission line, Bipole III built down the west side of the province on time and on budget.

For now, he's looking for a house andlikes the prices here.

"I just got my property tax assessment last week in North Vancouver so it'svery encouraging coming to Winnipeg," he said.

Thomson replaces Bob Brennan, whois retiring after holding the position since 1990.

"Under Bobs leadership, Manitoba Hydro has been highly competitive, powering our province in to the new millennia, and created stronger relationships with aboriginal Manitobans," Selinger said, saluting Brennan for his decades of service.
