Byelection date set for Fort Whyte

A date has been set for a byelection in the Manitoba constituency of Fort Whyte.

Adate has been set for a byelection in theManitoba constituency of Fort Whyte.

The seat was vacated July 30, following the resignation of Hugh McFadyen, former leader ofthe official opposition Progressive Conservative Party.

Thedocumentsdeclaring the byelection date ofSept. 4 were signed and issued Friday by Premier Greg Selinger.

Nominations will officially close on Aug. 20 and advance polls will be open from Aug. 25 to Sept. 1.

On voting day, polls will remain open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The NDPnominated their candidate, Brandy Schmidt, on Thursday night.

There are currently 37 New Democrats, 18 Progressive Conservatives, one Liberal and one vacant seat in the Manitoba legislature.
