Maryk children abduction case lands new charges

New charges have been laid in the abduction case of Abby and Dominic Maryk.

The parentsof one of the men accused of aiding in the kidnapping of theWinnipeg children have been each charged with two counts of obstruction of justice for a time period extending from Sept. 1, 2008, to May 25, 2012.

Darlene, 53,and Brad McKay, 48,were arrested on Monday and appeared in court in Winnipeg on Tuesday. They are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.

They are parents ofCody McKay, 23, who remains at large and is wanted under a Canada-wide arrest warrant for his role in the abduction.

Brad and Darlene McKayhave also been charged with two counts each ofabduction by concealment. Police did not further explain the charges and what the McKays are alleged to have done.

Abby and Dominicwere five and seven years old, respectively, when they went missing in August 2008.

They were on a two-week vacation as part of a court-approved visit with their father but were never returned to their mother, Emily Cablek, who has legal custody.

The children were found May 25 near a townhouse complex in Guadalajara, Mexico.

One of the men arrested in Mexico in the case,Robert Groen, was extradited on July 19and returned to Winnipeg for prosecution.

Kevin Maryk, the biological father of the abducted children, was also arrested in Maybut is still waiting extradition.

Investigators are still looking for Cody McKay, who is Kevin Maryk's nephew.
