Struck highway worker's identity released

The young womanstruck by a car andkilled while working at a road construction site on Mondayhas been identified as 21-year-old Brittany Murray of Winnipeg.

"I am, as the rest of my family, at a loss for words.Brittany was the most amazing person in the world and we all loved her so much," her sister, Lindsay Murray, wrote in an email to CBC News.

She saidMurray graduated in 2006 from Dakota Collegiateand wasattendingthe University of Manitobawhere she was working towards becoming an architect.

Murraywas holding a sign to direct traffic when she was struck by a northbound car on Provincial Road 207 between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 15, RCMP said.

A 67-year-old was driving thecar, police said.

Murray was rushed to hospital in serious condition but died after arriving, said RCMP spokesman Const. Miles Hiebert.

The tragedy is another reminder to drivers to slow down, he said.

"Our thoughts are with the family of this young girl and we can only remind people so much that you need to slow down in construction zones. There's people standing there they have no protection. They're right out in the open," he said.

Police have not said whether charges are being considered against the driver.

Alcohol was nota factor, RCMP said.
