Struck Winnipeg highway worker dies

A young woman from Winnipeg died Monday after being hit by a passing car while working at a road construction site, police say.

RCMP said the woman was hit just before 4 p.m. CT as she was working as a traffic signal person at a job site onProvincial Road207 between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 15.

A 67-year-old man was driving north on Highway 207 when his car struck the woman, police said. She was rushed to hospital in serious condition but died after arriving,Const. Miles Hiebert said.

Traffic is being rerouted around the crash scene, and an RCMP collision analyst is assisting officers with the investigation.

Police didn't disclose any names of those involved and wouldn't say whether charges are being considered.
