A table for 1,200 diners spanned the length of the Esplanade Riel Saturday night.

Hundreds of Winnipeggers took to the Forks for the event, organized by a local architecture group and some of the city's top chefs.

The event sold out in 36-hours, but Rohith Mascarenhasluckily snagged a ticket.

I think it's great.I think Winnipeg needs more events like this to put us on the map, more than we already are.

Organizers set the bar high and were trying to break the world record for longest dinner table ever.

The event came up just short of that special distinction, but organizers like Johanna Hurme were happy with the turnoutregardless.

Hurme said the event is meant to celebrate Winnipegs emerging design culture.

We're so pleased, like we're so pumped, said Hurme. People bought the tickets out in 36-hours. We couldn't be asking for more. Obviously you can see the spirit that's present here.

The Table for 1,200 event was put together to celebrate Winnipeg's design culture and emerging design scene.
