Taxi driver charged with sex assault on customer

A 41-year-old Winnipeg taxicab driver has been chargedwith sexually assaulting one of his customers.

According to police,a 21-year-old woman called a cabcompany around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday for a ride to her home in the city's River Heights neighbourhood.

Once she wasin the vehicle thedriversexually assaulted her, police said.

Thewoman tried toget out but was unable to, police added, but did not explain how she was prevented from doing so.

The cabbiethen drove the woman home and allegedly sexually assaulted her again before she was able to get out of the car.

The woman called police whenshe got into the house.

The cab driver has also been charged with forcible confinement.

He has been released from police custody on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
