Teens rescued after going missing on remote canoe trip

Two teen girls were rescued by helicopter after going missing during a canoe trip on Elbow Lake.

Two teen girlswere rescued by helicopter after going missing during a canoe tripon Elbow Lake.

RCMP were called Wednesday night after the girls, aged 14 and 16, failed to return to their remote campsitenortheast of LacduBonnet,near the Ontarioborder.

The girlswere last seen by their fellow campers at 4:30 p.m.

Members of the RCMP search and rescue team werebrought in, as well as staff from Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, the Office of the Fire Commissioner, andCasara and Search and Rescue Manitoba.

A helicopter located the girlsjust after 7a.m. on Thursday, on a rock ridgewithin a kilometre of the camp. The girls wererescued by the helicopter and returned to the group.

They were uninjured, RCMP said.

The 14-year-old girl is from Winnipeg. The 16-year-old girl is from East St. Paul.
