Teghan's top 5 things to do this weekend in Winnipeg (May 19-22)

On Friday you're going to have to decide if you want to check out comedy or music. There's a showcase at The Park Theatre with a whole bunch of great local comics, and over at Times Change(d), Micah Erenberg is kicking off his Canadian tour.

Saturday, there's a farmers market with you and your dog's name all over it and a great event for kids downtown at the Millennium Library.

And finally, all weekend long, the Manito Ahbee Festival has events at Club Regent and the Convention Centre, including a music awards show and an international powwow competition.

WHAT: COMEDY Winnipeg Comedy Showcase

When: Friday, May 19 at 9 p.m.

Where: The Park Theatre at 698 Osborne St.

Cost: $10

The Winnipeg Comedy Showcase has another instalment Friday night.

Jared Story is hosting with Dana Smith, Spencer Adamus, President Bear and more on the bill.

These sell out nearly every time, so try to get your tickets at least the day of instead of trying to get them at the door.

Tall cans are cheap, the lineup is fantastic and you get a full night of comedy for only $10!

WHAT: MUSIC Micah Erenberg at Times Change(d)

When: Friday, May 19 at 10 p.m.

Where: Times Change(d) at 234 Main St.

Cost: $15

Micah Erenberg and his band are kicking off their Canadian tour Friday with a hometown show at the Times Change(d).

Erenberg is a super talented singer/songwriter who has been flying a bit under the radar until recently. If you have a chance to check him and his band out on Friday, you should because he won't be back for a couple months.

In With The Old is opening and doors are at 10 p.m.

This is a smaller venue, so I'd show up right on time.

WHAT: SHOP St. Norbert Farmers' Market opens

When: Saturday, May 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: St. Norbert Farmers' Market at 3514 Pembina Highway.

Cost: FREE

The St. Norbert Farmers'Market is opening for the season this Saturday.

All the usual stuff will be there lots of fresh local produce, food trucks, music and lots of vendors who sell other stuff, like vintage clothes and fancy juices.

This is basically the only grocery option in the city that you can bring your dog to (or pet other people's dogs at) so you should probably go.

It's the Friday before the long weekend and CBC's Teghan Beaudette has her top 5 things to do in Winnipeg.

WHAT: KIDS Read by Queens

When: Saturday, May 20 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: The Millennium Library at 251 Donald St.

Cost: FREE

The Millennium Library will have some fabulous guests on Saturday to read stories to families and kids!

Drag queens and kings are volunteering their time to read, including Prairie Sky, Foxy Lamour, Sandi Bay, Satina Loren and a whole bunch of others.

The book lineup is top secret, but Eric Carl's The Very Hungry Caterpillar is rumoured to be on the list.

After the stories, there will be crafts and giant games to play.

This is the first Winnipeg Read by Queens event, but there's another coming up at the end of the monthif you can't make this one.

WHAT: FESTIVAL Manito Ahbee

When: Friday, Saturday or Sunday

Where: RBC Convention Centre at 375 York Ave.

Cost: $12 to $22

The Manito Ahbee Festival is on all weekend, starting with the Indigenous Music Awards Friday night.

It's a bit out of the way at the Club Regent Event Centre, but tickets are only $20 and there'll be performances by Fred Penner, Crystal Shawanda, Christa Couture, Felipe Gomez and others.

Saturday and Sunday there's a market, art expo, a live art competition, a jigging competition and the international powwow.

Individual tickets for Saturday or Sunday are only $12, and even less for family tickets.
