Tornado warning declared in parts of western Manitoba

A tornado warning was in effect Thursday night for parts of western Manitoba, including Dauphin, Russell, Roblin, Winnipegosis, Minnedosa and Riding Mountain National Park.

Environment Canada issued the warning shortly before 9:30 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm potentially capable of producing a tornado may also bring damaging winds, hail and intense rainfall, the federal agency said.

"This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation," Environment Canada states."Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately."

Strong rotation is possible near Millwood, and Binscarth is also in the path of the storm.

To anyone who sees a funnel cloud, Environment Canada recommends heading indoors and staying in a basement, bathroom, stairwell or closet

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings were also issued through much of western and southern Manitoba, save for the southeast of the province.
