Winnipeg Transit smart-card system ready by summer, officials say
Transit will conduct final testing of system in spring before it goes into bus fleet by summer
The much-delayed smart card system for Winnipeg Transitbuses will be on the streets early this summer, say city officials.
The $17.74 millionsystemwas originally supposed to roll out in June 2013 but technologicalissues kept pushing the date back.

Transit will conduct final testing of the system this spring beforeit goes into the city's fleet of buses, heralded by amarketing campaign that will explain how it works.
The card which can be topped up by phone or online with a credit card will be available at Shoppers Drug Mart, 7-Elevenand Winnipeg Transit offices.
