What to know about the Tyndall Park riding for Manitoba's 2023 election

Tyndall Park has been a riding since 2008 and held its first provincial election in 2011. It took roughly 60 per cent of its area from The Maples and roughly 40 per cent from the former Inkster riding.

Tyndall Park has been a riding since 2008 and held its first provincial election in 2011. It took roughly 60 per cent of its area from The Maples and roughly 40 per cent from the former Inkster riding.

The riding is located in northwest Winnipeg, running between Jefferson Avenue to the north and the CPKCCarberry rail line in the south. It's bounded on the west side by Brookside Boulevard (city limits) and on the east side by the CPKC rail lines and Keewatin Street.

It includes the Winnipeg neighbourhoods of Tyndall Park, Garden Grove, Lord Selkirk and Meadows West.

Its population is 24,630, according to the Elections Manitoba's 2023 riding profile, based on information from the 2021 census.

The census found the median age of the riding is 35.6 younger than the provincial median age of 38.4 while the median household income is $98,000.

  • Just over 71 per cent of residents identified as visible minorities.
  • Of those residents, close to 40 per cent said they were Filipino, according to Elections Manitoba's riding profile.
  • Close to half of the riding's residents identified as immigrants. Roughly 90 per cent of those people said their country of origin is in Asia.
  • About 78 per cent of residents in the riding said they owned their homes, while the other 22 per cent said they were renters.

The riding has leaned left since its inception, electing NDP and Liberal representatives since 2011.

Meet the candidates

The nominated candidates for the 2023 election, as of Sept. 2, are:

  • Cindy Lamoureux (Liberal incumbent).
  • Kelly Legaspi (NDP).
  • Christopher Santos (Progressive Conservative).

Candidates become official when they meet criteria set out in the province's Elections Act, including providing a statement of disclosure, after the election has been called. In Tyndall Park, all three candidatesare official.
