Unicity Taxi has apologized to Cheryl Watts, 47,an Edmonton woman visiting Winnipeg who received a head injurywhile trying to climbinto a cab earlier this week.

"Unicity Taxi is deeply sorry for the injuries caused to Cheryl Watts due to the mistake made by one of our drivers on Tuesday, March 15th," said the company through a statement released by the Winnipeg Taxi Alliance.

After Watts had placed a briefcase in thebackseat of hertaxi, she saidthe driver began to pull awayeven though Watts had not completely entered the vehicle yet and the door was still open. When the driver realized what he was doingand applied brakes, Watts hit her head, she said.

"He didn't even notice my head was smashed. If he did know that, he didn't care that my face hit the back of the doorframe. If he did, he didn't care. I am very, very angry. Because in my world, this is so insane and so inconsiderate," Watts said after the incident.

A CT scan confirmed Watts suffered a concussion from the incident, she said.

Unicity Taxi said passenger safety is one of its primary concerns and "in this case, we fell short."

"That is unacceptable and we expect that a similar incident will not occur again," the taxi company said.

Unicity Taxi said it encourages Watts to contact Manitoba Public Insurance and begin a claim for any of her medical-related expenses.
