University of Manitoba engineering faculty gets $5M donation from alumni

The University of Manitoba's faculty of engineering will get a newbuilding thanks to generous alumni.

Stanley Pauley and his wife, Dorothy Pauley, have donated $5 million to build a new space for labs, offices and study rooms.

The project will start in 2017 when the university's music annex building is demolished.

The couple's gift could fully fund the new building, but the university plans to use their generosity to encourage other donors so a larger facility can be built.

The announcement was made on Giving Tuesday, a relatively new Canadian movement that calls on people to give and volunteer after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Stanley Pauley donated $4.19 million in 2011 to renovate labs and create an electrical engineering facility on campus.

He graduated from the program more than 65 years agoin 1949.
