University of Manitoba students could soon see some major changes to their classes. The universitys faculty voted in favour of a strike on Thursday, after negotiations with university officials deteriorated.

The University of Manitoba Faculty Association had initiated a strike vote earlier this week. More than800 faculty members voted, and 68 per cent were in favour of striking.

The association represents more than1,200 educators on the universitys Fort Garry and Bannatynecampuses.

The union has not yet set a date for when the strike will begin, and specifics of how a strike would affect classes for more than29,000 students at the university have not yet been released.

The last collective agreement was inked between the university and the faculty association in 2010.

The Province of Manitoba has appointed a conciliator to try and come to an agreement between the two sides.
