University of Manitoba students are anxiously waiting to hear if 1,200 faculty members will strike on Tuesday.

The University of Manitoba Faculty Association has set a strike deadline of 12 a.m. tonight. If the association and the universitys administration cant come to an agreement within hours, the faculty association will strike.

Conciliation reached an impasse over the weekend, andnow both sides are intalks with a provincially-appointed mediator. Both sides have been asked not to comment publicly while the mediation process, which is scheduled to continue today.

The university has not yet released details on exactly what the possible strikewill mean for the universitys 29,000 students spread across two campuses but it has set up a website with some answers.

The universitys Strike Information website said the university will remain open if there is a strike and some classes will continue.

It also says class cancellations will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
