Vaping and vet bills face new laws as Manitoba legislature rises

New laws governing electronic cigarettes, veterinary bills and other items are receiving final approval on Thursdayas the Manitoba legislature ends a session that started a year ago.

One new law will ban the use of electronic cigarettes in indoor public places except for stores that sell the product.

The bill originally would have permitted so-called "vaping" in bars and other adult-only locations, but Healthy Living Minister Deanne Crothers says it was changed following public hearings this summer.

Among the dozens of new laws is one that will require veterinarians to provide upfront estimates of their services, and another that will give new power to the province's children's advocate.

The legislature will break for several days before reconvening for the annual throne speech on Nov. 16.

The throne speech will lay out the government's plans for the months leading up to next April's provincial election.
