Winnipeg firefighters had to put out yet another blaze at the former Vulcan Iron Works building early Saturday morning.

Crews responded to the fire at 12:50 a.m. afteron-duty Winnipeg police officers driving through the area reported it, the city said in a news release.

When they got there, theyfound the building engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. They had the fire fully extinguished shortly after 6 a.m. andno injuries were reported, the city said.

The North Point Douglas site on Sutherland Avenue was destroyed by fire inJuly 2023, which left large sections of the building collapsed.

Another one further damaged the historic building in September, and there have been several other minor firessince.

After the Julyfire, the building was considered to be a complete loss.

During an appeal hearing earlier this week, the property's owner, Sheldon Blank, asked a City of Winnipeg committee to amendthe building's demolition order to allow some structures at the site to remain, saying some are salvageable.

The committee adjournedthe hearinguntil June 17.

Winnipeg crews also responded to a handful of other structure fires early Saturday morning, including one on Flora Avenue, one on Manitoba Avenue, another on Dufferin Avenue and a fourth on Inkster Boulevard.

No injuries were reported in any of those fires, the city said.
