Issues

In 2014, from Jan. 1 until Sept. 16, the most common 311 complaint from the ward was missed garbage collection with 916 complaints. There were 1,303 calls in the same time frame in 2013.

Recycling collection came in second for 311 calls with 844 this year between Jan. 1 and Sept. 16. Last year in the same time frame there were 783 calls.

• Whodo you support for mayor of Winnipeg?

Nadine Stiller:Im at the moment undecided still. I think Brian Bowman and Robert-Falcon Ouellette have done really good campaigns.

Kevin Nichols:Im leaning towards Brian Bowman.

Evan Duncan:Ive heard some great things from the Bowman camp, but Im still listening and interested in what people have to say.

Marty Morantz:I want to see their entire platforms before I make up my mind. I would be leaning towards one of the candidates who are center right like Gord Steeves, Brian Bowman or Paula Havixbeck.

Luc Lewandoski:Im undecided but my conservative values align more with Brian Bowman or Gord Steeves.

• What political partyare youassociated with?

Nadine Stiller:Im completely independent but if you ask me what I am politically, I would say Im fiscally conservative.

Kevin Nichols:Im not associated with any political party, but my views are more along the lines of the Green Party. Theres too much on the far right or far left and Im more in the middle.

Evan Duncan:Im not actually a card-carrying member of any political party. My values would be conservative.

Marty Morantz:My party affiliation is Progressive Conservative. I was a candidate in the 2011 provincial election for MLA in River Heights.

Luc Lewandoski:I first joined the Progressive Conservative party close to 20 years ago and since then have held numerous roles with both the provincial and federal parties.

Voters' voices

• Arlene Ilag, 34

Lives in Whyte Ridge on Setterington Bay, and says the main issue in her area is the continuous and slow construction.

Right now we have to go a different way to Kenaston so if they could do the road construction right away, that would be great. Its going to save us time, she said, adding she doesnt think her ward has been properly represented because it doesnt need as much help.

Lives on Fitzgerald Crescent, and alsosays the ward hasnt been well-represented.

Nothing has every gotten done, it seems. Nothing has changed in the four years (Paula Havixbeck) was in, he said.

• DonKatz, 60

Lives on DriscollCrescent and says one thing that needs to changeis city councils dynamic.

I think they need to throw partisan politics out the window. I [am]business leaning so I tend to believe we have to fix the business side of city hall and eventually that flows into helping the social side of the issues that exist in the city, he said.

Katz, who is related to outgoing Mayor Sam Katz, says the area doesnt have a lot of issuesand safety is not a problem.

We have a fire station nearby, a police station nearby, its pretty good. All people have to worry about here is break and enters if anything, he said.

• Sarah Moesker, 22

Lives on residence at the Canadian Mennonite University andisfrom out of province. Shealways feels safe in the neighbourhood but the roads in the city ''are atrocious"and need some work, she said.

• Steven Redl, 31

Lives on Civic Street and says the thing that needs to change is more accountability and transparency at city hall.

"It never looks good when theres scandals and things like that in the media and constantly audits being done and issues going public that kind of seem to be hidden, he said.

• Jon Koslowsky, 38

Lives on Boreham Boulevard and says hes plagued by mosquitoes at his home near the Assiniboine Forest.

This year it was mosquitoes for me mosquitoes and the [winter] windrows in the back lane those were the two things that city council could definitely do something about, he said.
