Mother charged in death of 2-year-old son in Waywayseecappo First Nation

The mother of a two-year-old boy from the Waywayseecappo First Nation who died over a year ago has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his death.

The mother of a two-year-old boy from the Waywayseecappo First Nation who died over a year ago has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his death.

RCMP say the 36-year-old woman was arrested and charged on Tuesday. She is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Brandon, Man., on Thursday morning.

Police did not release any other details about the arrest.

Waywayseecappo is located about 150 kilometres northwest of Brandon in western Manitoba.

RCMP were called to the First Nation on Jan. 31, 2015, to help the Dakota Ojibway Police Service investigate the boy's death.

The boy's uncletold CBC News that he had bumped his head while rough-housing with his sister. The next morning, the child did not wake upand the family called police, they said.He was pronounced dead in hospital in Winnipeg.

In an interview that airedFeb. 4, 2015, the boy's mother said she was upset thatthree of her other children wereapprehended by Child and Family Services hours after her son died.
