A dress rehearsal at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights was cancelled over the weekend, raising questions about how ready the Winnipeg-based museum will be when it officially opens in days.

The three-hour test run event, which was set for Sunday, was meant for staff and their families to give valuable feedback on the exhibits, according to a museum invitation.

However, the event was cancelled because there's still too much work to be done, museum spokesperson Angela Cassie told CBC News.

"A lot of the people are still actively working, and we have a lot of activity happening in the galleries," she said Monday afternoon. "We just didn't want to meld the two."

Visiting from the United Kingdom,NevilleFisher said he's concerned about whether the museum will be ready in time for the big opening.

"It's disappointing, really, and unfortunate because obviously they had planned it," he said.

ButWinnipeggerDave Livingston, who rides his bicycle by the museum once a week, thinks it will happen.

"Oh, I think it'll happen. Yup, I'm confident," he said."It's Winnipeg! We'll get it done."

4 of 11 galleries will be open

The museum's opening ceremony takes place on Friday, then it officially opens on Saturday and Sunday to the 9,000 people who have secured preview tickets.

Four of the museum's 11 galleries will be open this weekend and even in those galleries, work will be ongoing, Cassie said.

Still, she said the 9,000 guests expected to visit the museum this weekend will not be disappointed.

"I think that there willbe a lot in there that will really astound people," she said.

The museum opens to the general public on Sept. 27.

As for the event for staff members and their families, Cassie said it will be rescheduled to a date after Saturday's grand opening.
