Winnipeg Art Gallery launches Free First Friday Nights

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is opening its doors but closing its admission counter, at least for one evening each month.

TheWinnipeg Art Gallery is opening its doors but closing its admission counter, at least for one evening each month.

Starting June 3, the WAG is offering freeadmission on the first Friday of every month. The dealbegins at 5p.m. with extended hours until 11p.m.

Casual, conversational guided tours are offered at8p.m., exploringthe WAG's permanent collection galleries, states a news release.

First Fridays are yet another way for the WAG to engage with wider audiences and inspire the community throughart,"saidStephenBorys, WAG director and CEO.

On view this summer is a line-up of exhibitions that include thedreamscapes of MarcChagall,carvings by renowned Inuit sculptorOviloo Tunnillie,andpaintings by Winnipeg artist Esther Warkov.

On June 11, the exhibit for Winnipeg's own Karel Funk will open, along withQua'yuk tchi'gae'win: Making Good, acknowledging the residential school systems and colonial trauma.
