Winnipeg city Coun. Russ Wyatt has had a change of heart, deciding he will run for re-election in his Transcona ward.

Russ Wyatt has had a change of heart, deciding he will run for re-election to city council in his Transcona ward.

His about-face comes just four days after he said he would instead focus on the federal Liberal seat for theElmwood-Transcona riding.

Wyatt has represented the ward since 2002.

He said Friday that Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau's team asked him to run for them.

On Tuesday, he told reportershe changed his mind after a flood of calls from his constituents.

"'We'd like you to reconsider and to stay, and to run again as the ward councillor forTranscona,'" he said.

"It was very humbling."

Wyatt said he hasn't, however, changed his mind about the need for a different government at the federal level. The former NDP staffer is now a card-carrying Liberal.
