Winnipeg city Coun. Scott Fielding is hoping to represent the Progressive Conservatives in the next provincial election.

The St. James-Brooklands councillor announcedTuesday morning that he has registered as a nomination candidate in the Kirkfield Park constituency.

He said he has represented many Kirkfield Park residents as a city councillor for the past eight years.

"I feel I have accomplished everything I set out to do at the municipal level and now want to be part of a team to bring change to the provincial government," Fielding said in a news release he posted on Twitter.

"After 15 years in power, the NDP have become a tired and arrogant government, and I believe Manitobans want change and deserve a government that will respect taxpayers and be honest with our citizens."

Last month, Fielding said he would not run for mayor in this fall's civic election.
