Winnipeg firefighter under investigation for allegations related to theft

A Winnipeg firefighter is being investigated for allegations related to theft, CBC has confirmed.

While no particular information is available about the alleged theft, the president of the United Firefighters of Winnipeg,Alex Forrest, saidmembers of the Fire and Paramedic service are shocked at the allegations.

"These charges go against everything a firefighter or paramedic stands for," he wrote in a statement to CBC.

Forrestsaid the United Firefighters of Winnipeg is committed to seeing to itthat the firefighter in question has "due process."

"This person is innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law," Forrest wrote.

The organization is not involved in the criminal process, according to Forrest, and is not funding the firefighter's defence.

The United Firefighters of Winnipeg can not make any comments on the particulars of this issue at this time as we do not want to interfere with the criminal process.

In regards to his employment status, We will ensure this person will have due process as this person is innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.

In regard to his criminal defence, We can state that we are not involved in the criminal defence of this person nor are we funding the defence in anyway.

I can also convey that all members of the Fire and Paramedic service are shocked at these allegations as these charges go against everything a Firefighter or Paramedic stands for.
