Fall is nearly here, and so is Winnipeg's giveaway weekend

Winnipeggers looking to unload or acquire an eclectic mix of free stuff will have the chance to do so this coming weekend. Winnipeg's fall giveaway weekend is Sept. 14-15.

Signsthat the summer season is slowly shifting into fall areshowing upacross the city the leaves arebeginning to change, pumpkin spice latteshave returnedand giveaway weekend is just around the corner.

Whether you're on the hunt to replace some household items or attempting to clear out your closets, the city is welcoming Winnipeggers to participate in the curbside swap Sept. 14 and 15.

Give your neighbours the opportunity to find their treasures among your unwanted items, reduce waste and keep usable items out of landfills.

If you're curb shopping, be sure to only take things that are on boulevards and clearly marked as free.

The City of Winnipeg has a page ofprintable labels on its websitethat participants are free touse.

The city also reminds people tostoreaway any items they don't want to give awayto avoid anythinginadvertently going missing.

Examples of giveaway items:

  • Books, CDsand DVDs.
  • Furniture, electronics and small appliances.
  • Sports equipment and toys.
  • Yard and gardening tools and equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, snowblowers, rakesand shovels).
  • Kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, potsand pans.
  • Unwanted gifts.
  • Construction material (e.g., nails, paintand wood).
  • Clothing.

Do not put out:

  • Items that could be unsafe.
  • Items infested with bedbugs (e.g.mattresses, furnitureand bedding).
  • Toilets (with a flush volume of 13 litres or more).

The city also reminds people to stay off private lawns and gardens and to obey traffic laws at all times, including not blocking trafficor parking illegally.
