2 people in stable condition after car hits dump truck in Winnipeg

Two people are in stable condition after a car slammed into a dump truck early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Elmhurst Road, police said.

The dump truck was being used for street cleaning at the time of the crash, police said.

A man and a woman who were in the carwere taken to hospital, police said, one initially in critical condition and the other in unstable condition.

The driver of the dump truck wasn't injured.

Police issued a news release around 9 a.m., saying the injured people'sconditions had been upgraded to stable.

A badly damaged car and the dump truck were blocked off by police tape early Thursday morning. A city crew was also there, looking over the truck.

Westbound Grant wasclosed between CathcartStreet and Elmhurst Thursday morning. Just after 11:30 a.m., police tweeted the street had been opened.
