Heading into the Easter long weekend, Manitoba's largest food bank is facing a food shortage.

Winnipeg Harvest has issued a plea for the following items:

  • Canned meat fish or poultry.
  • Canned fruit.
  • Canned vegetables.
  • Canned or packaged soup.
  • Packages of pasta or rice.

Winnipeg Harvest distributes food to nearly 62,000 Manitobans every month, and 43 per cent of them are children, food bank officials say.

Donations can be dropped off at any major grocery store or at Winnipeg Harvest (1085 Winnipeg Ave.). Monetary donations can also be made at the Harvest office or online through the Harvest website.

For every $1 donated, Winnipeg Harvest is able to distribute $20 worth of food, the charity says.
