Winnipeg mayor Brian Bowman keeps tabs on snow removal

Mayor Brian Bowman says he's listeningwhen it comes to snow removal.

Yesterday CUPE, the city's largest union, announced its snow removal hotline, collecting stories from Winnipeggers about snow removal.

Bowman told CBC's Information Radiohe's already doing that.

"I'm certainly listening, especially on social media, you know, the Twitter feed, when there's a snow I hear the positive and the criticisms when people aren't pleased and that's fair," Bowman said.

Bowman wouldn't comment on CUPE'shotline, but he said the theme of this term is looking for ways to improve all services.

"You know what I'm looking for is I'm just looking for what we can improve upon and you're probably going to hear me saying that about a lot of services over the course of my term as mayor. I want to see how we can improve better service on a number of initiatives including snow clearing," Bowman said.

A city report is expected in June examining snow removal.

Currently 80% of the work is done by private contractors.

CUPEbelieves it can do snow removal better by bringing more of the work back in house.
