Man allegedly armed with gun shot by Winnipeg police in Osborne Village

Winnipeg police shot and seriously hurt a man who was armed with a gun in Osborne Village on Wednesday.

Winnipeg police shot and seriously hurt a man who policesay was armed with a gun in Osborne Village on Wednesday.

A number of officers, including members of the tactical support unit, responded to391 Gertrude Ave. near Osborne Street at about 3 p.m., police said in a news release that evening.

Police found a man who they saywas armed with a gun and during the course of the incident, one of the officers shot the man.

Officers immediately provided emergency medical care, and the man was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

On Wednesday afternoon, police hadtaped off the front steps of a three-storey apartment building and closed part of the Osborne Village street.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., a rifle was seen on the steps of the Gertrude Avenue building. Multiple marked and unmarked police vehicles were also still at the scene.

Gertrude Avenue was closed from Osborne to Scott Street.
