Open-air burn permits temporarily banned in Winnipeg
Backyard fire pits can still be used, but not when wind speeds exceed 25 km/h, city says
Burning crop stubble and starting certain other open-air fires within Winnipeg city limits are banned for now, due to dry conditions and strong winds.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service has imposed a temporary ban on issuing open-air burn permits because of low ground moisture and high winds.

Backyard fire pits can still be used, as well as other approved outdoor receptacles, but not when wind speeds exceed 25 km/h, the city said.
The temporary ban means Winnipeggers cannot obtain permits for bonfires, fires for burning crop residue, fires for disposing of wood and warming fires that are typically found at outdoor events and picket lines.
The ban will be lifted as soon as conditions improve, the city said in a news release Tuesday.
