Winnipeg security worker charged with assault after woman knocked unconscious at Main Street bar

Winnipeg police have charged a security worker with assault causing bodily harm after a dispute with a woman about not smoking on a patio.

Winnipeg police have charged a security worker with assault causing bodily harm after a dispute with a woman about not smoking on a patio.

The 42-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested on Friday and released on a undertaking, police said in a news release on Saturday.

Police said an 18-year-old woman was smoking on the patio at a bar on Main Street before noon on Aug. 30 when she was confronted by the security guard.

The man told her smoking on the business's patio was prohibited, leading to a verbal argument that led to a physical altercation, police said.

Police said the woman fell to the ground and was assaulted by the worker, rendering her unconscious. The woman received medical treatment for her injuries.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and obtainedvideo surveillance, police said.
