Winnipeg police find body in Sturgeon Creek near Grace Hospital

Winnipeg police are investigating after recovering a body from Sturgeon Creek near Grace Hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Officers taped off a large area on the banks Sturgeon Creek near Sturgeon Road and Portage Avenue around 3:15 p.m.A number of police cars were on scene with an ambulance parked nearby.

Later in the evening, police confirmed the discovery of a body but said an autopsy would have to be performed to confirm the person's identity.

Catherine Curtis went missing after leaving the Grace Hospital on April 25. A massive search for the 60-year-old woman has been underway since.

She had been admitted a couple of weeks earlier for mental health issuesand left on April 25 on a hospital-approvedunaccompanied walk.

Nearby residentElsie Boulaydoes notknow the Curtisfamily but said she felt compelled to bring flowers to the area after hearing about her story on the news and seeing posters of Curtisin herapartment building.

"We deal with mental health issues at [Grace] hospital with my son," Boulaysaid.

Boulaysaid she hopes the flowers let the family know they are not alone.
