3 Winnipeg police officers self-administer naloxone after possible fentanyl exposure

Winnipeg police have confirmed three of their officers were forced to self-administer naloxone Monday afternoon after a possible fentanyl exposure.

Const. Rob Carver said the officers started feeling light-headed shortly after being called to a car crash in the East Kildonan neighbourhood.

The officers started to feel light-headed and self-administered the lifesaving antidote naloxone, which stabilized them before they were taken to hospital.

"Other information led them to believeit was an opioid exposure," Carver said adding the naloxone was effective.

He said it's too early to confirm if the officers were exposed to an opioid, but tests are being done with results expected to arrive in the next two weeks.
