Winnipeg police probe 'suspicious circumstances'

Winnipeg police have closed Burrows Avenue east of Main Street to traffic on Sunday to investigate what they are describing as "suspicious circumstances."

Winnipeg police closed Burrows Avenue east of Main Street to traffic on Sunday to investigate what they are describing as "suspicious circumstances."

Police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen confirmed thatpart of Burrows Avenue was closed at about 2:20 p.m. CT. Sunday. All eastbound traffic has been blocked as a result.

However,Michalyshen did not explainwhy the street has been shut down, except to sayan investigation into "suspicious circumstances"is inits early stages.

Members of the police service's forensicidentification unit are in the area.

One witness told CBC News he sawthe body of a woman at the scene. However, police have not confirmed any details at this time.

Police would not release any further information about the investigation on Sunday, Michalyshen said in a release.
