28-year-old arrested after 2 men stabbed in downtown Winnipeg on Friday

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after two men in their 30s were stabbed in downtown Winnipeg on Friday.

Men have been upgraded to stable condition

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon in connection with two stabbingsdowntown on Friday, Winnipeg police say.

Officers were informed around 5:10 p.m. that two men in their 30s were stabbed near Portage Avenue and Smith Street.

The first man was shopping at a store on Portage Avenue when a man he didn't knowconfrontedhim with a knife before stabbing him and leaving.

The second man was confronted outside by a man moments later and, after a brief conversation, was stabbed by the man, who then took off.

The two stabbing victims were in unstable condition when taken to the hospitalbut were later upgraded to stable condition.

Officers arrested an intoxicated suspect near Portage Avenue and Garry Street, the news release said.
