Police search West Broadway area for suspects after string of bear spray, machete attacks Sunday morning

Winnipeg police are searching the West Broadway area for two suspects aftera string of machete and bear spray attacks.

The suspects were allegedlyinvolved in multiple attacks in the West End and downtownon Sunday morning, according to an emailed statement from police.

The University of Winnipeg said in a social media post on Sundaythat two people approached and confronted a resident of McFeetors Hall, a student residencein the area of Portage Avenue and Langside Street at about 10 a.m.

That resident suffered from minor injuries and received medical attention, the post said.

There's a possibility the attacks may be related, police said in the statement.

Officers previously saidmultiple people wereinvolved in at least four attacks on Sunday morning, andat least one of those attacks involved a machete.

Several police cars were in the West Broadway area, and officers were also patrolling on foot.

CBCspoke with one man who was attacked around noon.

The man said thetwo suspects looked like young teenagers, and one was holdingwhat appeared to be pepper sprayin bothhands when he was attacked.

The university says it's enhancing security at building entry pointsas an immediate precaution.
