Winnipeg runners lace up for Terry Fox Marathon of Hope anniversary

Runners across Canada laced up and took part inthe35thanniversary of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope Sunday.

Terry Fox, who lost his right leg to cancer,set out on a historic runacross Canada to raise money for cancer research in 1980. Foxnever finished the ambitious cross-country run hedied of cancer in 1981 in a Vancouver hospital.

Millions of dollars have been raised toward cancer research since his death.

And on Sunday, asmall group of runnersconverged at Winnipeg's City Hall and headed west down Portage Avenue with a procession of vehicles and police cars in tow to commemorate Fox's historic journey.

The run was expected to end at 3 p.m. just past the Perimeter Highway near Racetrack Road and the MTS Iceplex.
