Winnipeg's cold, snowy winter damages city's snow removal equipment

Winnipegs cold weather and heavy snowfall has taken a toll on some of the citys snow clearing equipment.

According to city officials, some of Winnipegs snow clearing equipment is starting to break down causing intermittent delays randomly around the city.

The extreme and persistent weather conditions being experienced this winter has resulted in intermittent delays to complete snow clearing activities due to various equipment failures, said Michelle Finley, the citys communications officer.

Crews withthe citys public worksdepartment are working to service the equipment and have it up and running as quickly as possible.

The public works department works closely with the citys fleet management agency to get the equipment back in service as quickly as possible and will be working with them to examine ways of minimizing down time in the future, said Finley.

The 2013/2014 winter season has been one of the coldest on record and producedsnowfall that has surpassed the previous year.
