Winnipeg's 'grand ol' dame' turns 90

Celebrations have begun to mark the 90th anniversary of the Fort Garry Hotel.

Celebrations have begun to mark the 90th anniversary of the Fort Garry Hotel.

Thursday night, 300 past employees, their guests, and many special friends will gather in the hotel's historically restored seventh-floor ballrooms to stroll down memory lane and recount the social history of the landmark hotel.

Ida Albo, managing partner of the downtown hotel, says the oldest past employee at the party is 91 years old and worked at the hotel in the 1920s.

The main singer at the supper dances of the 1950s will also be in attendance, and has offered to sing with Ron Paley and his band.
