City to repair 150 Winnipeg streets, sidewalks in 2017

The City of Winnipeg has released a list of which residential streetsitplans to fixupin2017 with the help of contributions from the Manitoba and federal governments.
"Winnipeggers have said time and time again that fixing the roads is their No. 1priority," Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman said in a statement Friday.
The city announced $105 million for road repairs last fall when it released the 2017 budget.
More than $60 million will be spent repairing150 local streets and sidewalks this year, with another $45 million set aside for regional street projects.

More than $12 million of allotted funds for regional and local repairs will come from the federal Gas Tax Fund, federal Natural Resources Minister JimCarr said. The remaining $93 million will come from the city and province.
"These projects will improve the quality of life for Winnipeggers and tourists through better roads, reduced traffic delays, faster commuting and increased efficiency of the overall transportation network of our city," the Winnipeg South Centre member of Parliamentsaid.
The federal government is anteing up $68 million per year formunicipal infrastructure projects in Manitoba through the gas tax, the city said.
Manitoba Minister of Families Scott Fieldingsaid municipal infrastructure spending is a priority and the Pallister government plans to work closely with the city and federal officials to improve Winnipeg roads, back lanes and sidewalks.
