Winnipeg Transit driver accused of assaulting passenger

A 53-year old Winnipeg Transit driver is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a 23-year old woman on his bus.

A 53-year-old Winnipeg Transit driver is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a 23-year-old woman on his bus.

Police said it happened around 7:30 a.m. Saturdayin the 500 block of University Crescent.The woman was intoxicated and falling asleep on the bus with her feet up on the seat, police said.

The driver asked her to get off, but she refused.

He then allegedly threw her things off the vehicle.

She got off but then collected the items and got back on.

The two argued and police say that's when he pushed her.

Police also say the woman asked the driver to call police, but he wouldn't.

When the bus stopped a short time later, the woman flagged down a bystander and got off.

She has minor upper body injuries.

The bus driver is facing assault charges.

A spokesperson for the city said Winnipeg Transit will not be commenting on the matteras an investigation is underway by the Winnipeg Police Service.
